Dr. Seuss' Birthday Party

Last weekend was Dr. Seuss' 109th birthday. Our preschool celebrated by throwing a party in his honor. I was part of the committee, and I must say, it turned out really great. Everyone did their part, the set up and clean up wasn't bad at all, and most importantly, people CAME! And they had fun!

We had a Sneetch Machine, a Cat in the Hat hat-making station, and a Horton Hears a Who spoon race.

There was a big play dough table, a photo booth with props, and Dr. Seuss lacing cards.

This lovely lady in the middle was the main organizer of everything. She saved me a ton of work, and made sure everything was taken care of efficiently and super-cutely. Thank you, Brook!!!

We also had a One Fish Two Fish fishing pond, a Cat in the Hat balancing act, and a rhyming wall where the kids could write their own rhymes.

However many cool activities there were, my boys went straight for these plastic connector things and stayed there building stuff the whole time. Josh made a bunch of Ninja Turtle weapons that he was very proud of.

All four Mormon families crammed around the same tiny table. We tend to do that.

The snack table was clever and noteworthy:

Truffula trees (cupcakes and cotton candy, from The Lorax)

Green Eggs and Ham (pretzel sticks, white chocolate, green M&Ms)

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish bowl (rainbow goldfish scooped with a fish net)

Moose Juice and Goose Juice

Hop on Pop popcorn

If I Ran the Circus animal crackers

I made the green eggs and ham. They were actually really delicious.

At the end, there was a raffle drawing. Guess who won The Cat in the Hat -- both the book and the stuffed animal....we did!! We never win ANYTHING by chance, so it was a happy day for us. Here are the boys with Mrs. Carbary, the preschool director, showing off their prizes.

It was a fun party, and pretty painless to put together with so many helpers. Happy birthday, Theodor Geisel! Thanks for being so quirky!
