Not a Newborn Anymore!

Little Jude is four months old today. While it seems like he's been a part of my life forever, I feel like he should still be a tiny little newborn -- not a four month old "infant" who is drooling his way toward teeth and getting big enough to start eating solids and having smelly diapers! I'm just not ready for all that yet!

I haven't been good about posting pictures as he grows, so here are a bunch from the last couple of months.

May -- about two months old

Jude is such a good baby. He sleeps pretty well at night, eats quickly without getting too distracted, and naps predictably. He lets me eat my favorite things, like broccoli and chocolate (not together of course), without rejecting my breast milk, but spicy food really affects his poor little tummy.

He's been a thumb sucker for a long time now. His fists are always tight up by his face, unless his hands are clasped like he's praying.

He rarely gets cranky without a good reason. He's not bothered by people smothering him with kisses all day long, and he lets Josh hold him and play with him without much fuss. He smiles for everyone, kicks his legs like a maniac, and carries his end of a conversation pretty well.

Memorial Day -- almost 3 months old

Matt blessed Jude in our apartment the night of graduation (June 11), while his parents were in town, and right before all our friends dispersed to start "real life" at their respective new jobs across the country. It meant a lot to us to have them all there.

Jude is much more willing to take a pacifier than Josh was, but it's definitely not a cure-all.

Here are Josh and Jude last week, wearing their cute new outfits and shades sent by their Auntie Lindsey (my college roommate). Just so you know, Lindz, Josh has asked to wear his "super cool green shirt" no less than three times this week.

I want to take this smile and plaster it all over my walls. Seriously, can you look at that face and not smile back??

We've been visiting my family in Redding the last couple of weeks. Jude rarely touches the floor because someone is always holding him. He has been a real trooper on the boat here. He's required by law to wear a life jacket, and of course there's not one that fits quite right. It's more like a straight jacket because his arms are stuck out to the sides so he can't eat his fists, which he usually does all day long.

And here is the little prince on the boat today, just a few hours ago.

I want to squish him and eat him constantly.
